BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Health Cordillera announced that there are now two additional human immunodeficiency virus treatment hub in the region.
Sexually transmitted infections-HIV Cordillera DoH regional coordinator Darwin Babon said the new hubs will boost the treatment services as they are located in areas accessible to patients from far flung places.
The two treatment facilities are the "Abong ti Namnama" (House of Hope) in La Paz, Abra and the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center in Luna, Apayao.
Previously, the existing treatment hubs in the region are situated at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Baguio City Health Services Office and Notre Dame De Chartres Hospital, all in Baguio City.
Babon disclosed that the Benguet General Hospital in La Trinidad, Benguet is already in the process of accreditation as another treatment hub. It is expected to be accredited this year.
Health authorities want every treatment hub to be equipped with rapid HIV diagnostic algorithm confirmatory laboratory.
This is to speed up the release of tests results so that any person found positive can be immediately given appropriate treatment.
Based on data of the DoH Cordillera, there have been a total of 1,034 cases of HIV from 1984 up to the present, with 99 from the total number of cases listed from January to August this year.
