Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon said an ordinance mandating fastfood restaurants to hire persons with disabilities, and senior citizens has already been approved and is now ready for implementation.
Even before the ordinance was enacted, the local government has long been employing senior citizens, PWDs and even those with comorbidities.
"We all are aware that seniors, PWDs and especially those with comorbidities need their maintenance medicines," Calderon said. "By hiring them, they would have the means to buy them."
Howeve, Calderon clarified that the local government would make sure that the tasks delegated to the elders, and those with impairment and illnesses would not compromise their well-being.
In a separate statement, Angono Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said that the ordinance mandating corporations in the town to provide temporary employment to qualified senior citizens and PWDs, is part of town's social amelioration program.
As per the ordinance, each fastfood corporation has to employ two senior citizens and one PWD, earning minimum wage. Senior citizens, PWDs and those with comorbidities are required to render a minimum of four hours of work four days a week.
Angono, a lakeshore town known for its colorful Higantes Festival, is also the hometown of two national artists, Lucio San Pedro for music and Carlos "Botong" Francisco for visual arts.
