The Department of National Defense will remain vigilant and observant of the security situation in the country amid this year's holiday celebrations.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. gave the public this assurance before reporters at a thanksgiving event the previous night in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
"Rest assured that we will continue to monitor and be vigilant so that we can assure the public of a safe and meaningful Christmas and New Year," he said in Filipino.
The country is still reeling from the bombing of the Mindanao State University last 3 December, killing four and injuring dozens. Authorities had arrested a suspect in the suspected terror bombing.
Two persons of interest were initially tagged in the bombing, with two more being added days later. The foreign-based Islamic State claimed credit for the bombing.
The country's security agencies will be relentless in monitoring and foiling similar threats, Teodoro said.
"We will not rest, and we will be on guard against natural and man-made calamities and dangers. We will remain vigilant 24/7 and we are ready at all times to help our fellow citizens in need," he said.
