QUEZON City transforms kitchen scraps and other organic materials into biogas, which can be used for cooking and heating.
United Nations in the Philippines distributed biogas digesters to barangays across Quezon City, a significant step toward the city's sustainability thrust and addressing food waste.
The digesters play a crucial role in reducing food waste, which accounts for a staggering 43 percent of the city's total waste.
They transform kitchen scraps and other organic materials into biogas, which can be used for cooking and heating, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional fuels.
By utilizing the digesters, the barangays will not just improve their waste management; they bring them closer to a greener future, one whose commitment is to fostering a circular economy.
The initiative is part of the UNDP Philippines ACE Project, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and supported by the government of Japan.
