Basic Energy uncovers Ilocos wind potentials

Basic Energy Corp. is expanding its wind power portfolio after it successfully secured a wind energy service contract or WESC from the Department of Energy or DoE for a nearshore project in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
The listed energy firm informed the local bourse on Thursday that the WESC, effective since 15 September 2023, grants the company exclusive right to explore, develop, and utilize the wind energy resources in the 5,502.54 hectares contracted area.
Basic Energy said it will deploy its resources for the wind resource assessment campaign to validate the wind regime in the area.
Based on a four-model simulation conducted by a foreign third-party consultant, the project alone is estimated to generate and deliver power ranging from 90 to 112 megawatts or MW.
WESC for onshore wind power plant
In June, Basic Energy also obtained a WESC from the DOE for an onshore wind power plant in San Joaquin and Miag-ao, Iloilo, and Hamtic, Antique. The WESC has an approximate total land area of interest of 13,932 hectares, covering 172 blocks. Based on a preliminary study conducted by an independent party, the wind plant is expected to generate a capacity of at least 150 to 175 MW.
Meanwhile, Basic Energy's subsidiary, Mabini Energy Corp., signed confidentiality agreements with several parties who have shown interest in partnering in the ongoing development of a planned 50 MW wind project in Mabini, Batangas in February.
Apart from wind energy, the company is also currently involved in oil exploration apart from geothermal resource developments and solar power.
