President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez the Presidential Assistant for Strategic Communications, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
The appointment paper signed by Marcos on 5 December showed that Chavez holds the rank of Undersecretary.
Undersecretary Chavez's position falls under the Office of the President.
"By virtue hereof, you may qualify and perform the duties of the office, furnishing the Office of the President and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your Oath of Office," the appointment paper read.
Last October 2022, Chavez admitted that he was considered to be the press secretary in the Marcos administration.
Chavez's name came up a day following the resignation of former Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, who cited "health reasons" for stepping down from the position.
"I was informed that I'm being considered for the position. Yes, I was informed," Chavez said, adding he was "surprised" to be included in the list because "there are more qualified, highly qualified, for that position."
"I expressed no interest in that position," Chavez said in a television interview.
He mentioned considering the offer and discussing it with his family, despite not actively seeking the position at that time.
Chavez emphasized his commitment to being a valuable team member within the Marcos administration. He expressed his willingness to serve dutifully if the role is taken on.
