Eight more Filipinos have successfully crossed to Egypt from the Palestinian Sunni-Islamic extremist group Hamas-controlled Gaza, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.
DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs Eduardo de Vega said the eight Filipinos were able to cross the border to Egypt on Saturday.
"Eight were able to cross yesterday. We are hoping for one more today," De Vega told Daily Tribune in a Viber message.
So far, the DFA official said only 18 Filipinos are remaining in the besieged Palestinian territory.
There were previously a total of 137 Filipinos in Gaza before the 7 October cross-border surprise attack of Hamas in Israel, which left more than 1,200 dead, including four Filipinos.
Meanwhile, Hamas claimed that nearly 15,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Israeli aerial bombardment and ground operations in the Palestinian territory since the war began.
Over the past weeks, the Qatar-mediated four-day truce between Israel and Hamas saw the release of Filipino hostages Gelienor "Jimmy" Pacheco and Noralin Babadilla, who were previously tagged as missing since the 7 October attack.
