Muntinlupa City will target indigents who want to start their own micro-businesses next year by providing them with soft loans for what they call "Muntipreneurs."
"This means that if this year we provided the 'Dagdag Puhunan, Walang Tubo' additional funding without interest program for MSMEs, in 2024 we will come up with a startup capitalization plan for indigent people by providing businesses and capital for them," said Maylene Viñas of the Muntinlupa Entrepreneurship Financing Division during Daily Tribune's Asian Innovation Forum in Barangay Sucat, Muntinlupa City on Thursday, 30 November.
Towards bigger challenges
Vinas said if the indigents grow their businesses and earn a good standing, they will have a chance to avail of the "Dagdag Puhunan, Walang Tubo" (Added capital at no interest) program of the Muntinlupa government.
"Dagdag Puhunan, Walang Tubo," which was launched in July 2015 during the term of then-mayor Jaime Fresnedi, and is being continued by Mayor Ruffy Biazon, is a financing program for micro-entrepreneurs.
The program under Biazon gives micro-entrepreneurs loans of P3,000 up to P150,000 at zero interest.
"But since the budget of Muntinlupa is very limited, I would like to urge all our borrowers to return the money on time so that other micro-entrepreneurs could be given a chance to avail of loans. We would want Muntinlupa residents to prosper and grow," Vinas said.
Vinas said the loan application process includes a seminar to equip micro-entrepreneur borrowers with information.
"What we want to inculcate is if you want to be a businessman, then please at least have the heart of one. We firmly believe that business owners are more capable of saving than salaried workers. So, we must grab the golden opportunity given to us by the loan providers and, at the same time, be responsible," she said.
The third leg of the AIF, themed "ME Time: Growing on a Windfall," was brought to selected barangays to reach MSMEs at the grassroots and provide insights to improve and develop businesses.
