DENR to check Pasay’s pronouncement on reclamation projects’ resumption

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources on Tuesday said they have to check the pronouncement made by the Pasay City government that the reclamation projects under the Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development will resume as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has decided to exempt them from a suspension order.
Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano on Monday said the presidential decision came after the coastal development projects acquired an environmental compliance certificate and area clearance from the DENR and Philippine Reclamation Authority.
But Leones said the environmental department is not the one who recommended the exemption to the Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development.
At the regular Palace's Bagong Pilipinas press briefing, DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones said they will check the pronouncement made by the Pasay City government pronouncement that Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development is now ready to continue.
"Ngayon ko lang narinig ito, pero sa last hearing namin sa Congress last week, wala pang nagreressume (reclamation projects) pero sa amin kasi, after our compliance review, i-susumite namin ang recommendation sa Office of the President at sila po ang magdedesisyon kung magtutuloy o hindi (reclamation project)," Leones said .
Leones confirmed that an Environmental Compliance Certificate has already been issued to Pasay Eco-City Coastal Development.
"Ang gusto nating makita ay kung talagang nagcocomply sila sa mga requirements (conditions). ECC yan, may mga conditions sila na dapat sundin. So even if the ECC has been issued tinitingnan natin if they comply with these conditions. If they failed to comply with the requirements I believed we couldn't recommend or endorsed the resumption any activities in Manila Bay. But we will check," Leones further explained.
According to the Pasay City government, the projects have also been deemed compliant with other issuances from the PRA and the local government.
"This is a most welcome development as the lifting will pave the way for the resumption of development activities with the end goal of helping further boost the economy and providing needed revenue to the government," the Pasay Mayor said as she expressed her gratitude to Marcos.
