Florendo said there is no specific timeline because the site development in the area is a little difficult due to the type of soil for construction

The local government of Danao City in Cebu disclosed on Tuesday that two transformative projects in Barangay Dunggoan were launched which is seen to help those who are in need of shelter and livelihood.
Cebu Gawad Kalinga provincial head Toby Florendo said that the projects — a socialized housing project in collaboration with Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation and a satellite market in cooperation with a cement company — will benefit at least 300 families.
Florendo said that the housing project in Danao will be their 18th housing project in Cebu and will be second biggest number of GK houses in the province with the first project completed in Daanbantayan in northern Cebu.
City Mayor Thomas Durano said that the agreement entails that the local government will prepare the land, cement roads, water, electricity and drainage systems.
"The Gawad Kalinga will to construct the houses while land preparation will be the responsibility of the city government and Republic Cement," Durano said.
He added that Republic Cement donated the land property for the housing project which is 2.4 hectares and with an estimated cost of P179 million.
Republic Cement plant manager Engr. Noel Ballaran said that their undertaking was part of their social responsibility in the community.
Meantime, Florendo said there is no specific timeline because the site development in the area is a little difficult due to the type of soil for construction.
Aside from the soil, the GK still have to look for funding for the construction of loftable houses — a one-story house with high ceilings.
The other sites of the socialized housing project by GK are in San Remigio, Bogo City, Consolacion, Liloan, Talisay City, Mandaue City, Toledo City, Minglanilla, City of Naga, Dumanjug and Dalaguete.
As for the 959-square meter satellite market, the city allocated P11 million from its general fund and scheduled completion will be June 2024 and Durano said that they decided to have a satellite market as a strategy to make the market accessible to residents who lived far away from the main public market.
"We will not be depending on only one market but at least distribution of crops will be to the satellite market, too," said Durano, adding that they are planning to add four satellite markets in the city in Barangays Guinacot, Baliang, Lawaan and Masaba.
