Former teammates Gerry Esplana and Allan Caidic will be conspiring anew when they run the fledgling Pilipinas Super League.
PSL president Cris Bautista formally welcomed the appointment of Esplana as the league's deputy commissioner for Luzon.
Esplana's new role will reunite him with his former Presto Tivoli teammate Caidic, who will be serving as commissioner of the nationwide basketball league that caters to players who are looking to warm up before joining the Philippine Basketball Association.
"Gerry will be our deputy commissioner for Luzon and since we're going to have legs in the Visayas and Mindanao, we're going to have deputy commissioners in each leg," said Caidic, referring to Esplana, who was chosen as the PBA Rookie of the Year in 1990.
Bautista added that the appointment of Esplana, who also coached both in the collegiate and the commercial league levels, would somehow further strengthen the credibility of the PSL.
"We're conscious on building the integrity of the league and with these PBA legends leading the way, we can assure the public that this league is nowhere to go, but up," Bautista said.
"We now have a total of 20 teams competing."
Esplana looks forward on his new role in basketball and is excited to reunite with Caidic.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity. Such partnership with Allan is already proven," Esplana said.
"He knows that I'm the sports director of Valenzuela and I'm familiar with the task he is giving me as deputy commissioner."
