Bilibid Central park in the works
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla's dream of constructing an open park at the heart of Metro Manila just like the Central Park in New York, USA will come to fruition.
This might happen as this is one of the proposals being considered when the Bureau of Corrections finally shuts down the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City by 2028.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. disclosed that Remulla wanted the 100-hectare lot of the more than 350 hectares of NBP as an open park while the remaining space will be of mixed-used government center south of Metro Manila.
While plans are still being finalized, the BuCor opened its door for the use of its sunken garden as training ground for Football Club Bilibid, a team composed of underprivileged children and children of persons deprived of liberty.
It is an outreach program of King of the Blues which is made up of classmates from the Ateneo De Manila from batch '67 Grade School, '71 High School and '75 College.

Catapang said that he was touched that a simple gesture of BuCor to allow them to use its Sunken Garden for the training of FCB will mean so much for the kids as they will have lots of open space to learn and enjoy sports to develop their talents and character.
The founder and manager of FCB Captain Rafael Bolo Misa, a retired airline captain paid a courtesy call recently to Catapang together with his team and present a plaque of appreciation.
Misa said "After three years, we are now restarting our program with a bang, big thanks to General Catapang. We have dozens of young kids ages 7-12 who are eager to learn the sport. We have 80 kids in our program presently. Our FCB staff consisting of senior FCB players, is even more eager to help. Hopefully, just as we did together a few years back, we can make a difference in the lives of these kids whose misfortune it is to be born into the families they have."
He added that their hope is that the kids develop sufficient football skills which hopefully will earn them scholarships in prestigious schools.
