Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Tuesday lambasted critics who complained on the provincial government's daily feeding program which was launched for almost a week now.
Garcia accused critics of being "greedy and uninformed" and cited that the provincial government's continuous dole-outs and rice allowances provision may strain the resources of the province.
This comes as some netizens have proposed to replace the daily porridge feeding program with provision of five kilos of rice to families of public school students.
"We are to help each other, it's not only government for all the needs. This is government, Parent-Teacher Association and the Department of Education. In the 10 months that our beloved students are in school, there is food," Garcia said.
To address the situation, the provincial government plans to call for a general assembly at the IEC Pavilion in Mabolo, Cebu City to explain fully the feeding program. Attendees will include DepEd officials, school heads and Parent-Teacher Association officers, fostering dialogue for better understanding.
The provincial government has allocated P197 million for the program which intends to provide meals to 878,619 students in 1,494 DepEd schools throughout Cebu Province for the entire school year.
