Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said on Monday that the bureau has denied the entry of almost 3,000 aliens for this year.

From January to October, immigration officials barred 2,778 undesirable aliens and foreign nationals with improper documentation from entering the country. They included 696 Chinese, 414 Vietnamese, 214 Indonesians, 204 Americans, and 138 Indians.

According to Tansingco, the majority of them made an effort to enter through Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the country's most prominent port.

Compared to last year, the BI excluded a total of 2,768 foreigners for various reasons, with 52 percent of whom were likely to become public charges while 20 percent were excluded for being improperly documented.

Tansingco also said that the strengthened port monitoring was a result of the increase in arriving foreign nationals post-pandemic.

"As the world opens, the number of travelers has increased," said Tansingco. "And with this also comes the increase of illegal aliens attempting to enter the country," he added.
