Operatives of the Quezon City Police District pounced on a woman involved in a fraudulent investment scheme over the weekend.
QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit Chief, P/Maj. Don Don Llapitan, identified the suspect as Alvera Navarro, 54 year old, a resident of No. 66 Naranghita Quirino 2-A, Project 2, Quezon City.
Llapitan said Navarro enticed her investors, in an investment scheme involving foreign K-Pop artists who would be doing a concert in the country.
With her company, the NEUWAVE Events and Production Inc. as the organizer, Navarro promised her investors of a fifty percent return on investment and issued post post-dated check to them as a guarantee, upon receiving their money.
Llapitan said Navarro was able to entice police officer Matthew Fajardo and businessman Bryan Chua to invest in their company. They entrusted to her their investments, totaling P51 million, lured by promises of attractive returns on their investments.
The suspect issued post-dated checks, assuring the victims of a 50 percent return on investment and guaranteed interest.
However, the checks she issued bounced and were marked as closed accounts.
Upon discovering the closed accounts, the victims demanded the return of their invested funds. In response, the suspect demanded an additional amount of P16 million in exchange for their ROI.
This prompted the victims to report the incident to the QCPD-CIDU
which set up an entrapment operation inside Mr. Kebab, located at No. 33 Kalayaan Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, resulting in the arrest of the suspect, and the recovery of P2,000 in bills, along with a BDO check.
The suspect will be charged with estafa, robbery, and violation of BP 22 also known as the Anti-Bouncing Check Law, and will be referred to the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
