A swift and well-coordinated response by the Manila Police District-Baseco Police has resulted in the successful rescue of a mother and her two children from a hostage taker Thursday night, a drunken security guard.
The incident occurred in Block 1 Dubai, within the Baseco Compound of Barangay 649, Port Area, Manila, according to MPD chief P/Col. Arnold Tomas Ibay.
Ibay identified the suspect as Justine Acosta, 33, a resident of Barangay Cupang, Marikina. The three victims were a 31-year-old single housewife and her two young kids, residents of the Block 1, Dubai building.
A drinking session on Thursday at the fourth-floor unit of the suspect's supervisor preceded the hostage-taking touched off by Acosta forcibly barging into the victims' unit and holding them at knifepoint.
The police, led by P/Lt. Col. Emmanuel Sherry Gomez, promptly arrived at the scene and initiated negotiations with the suspect to peacefully surrender.
In a decisive moment, the police managed to disarm and subdue the suspect, bringing an end to the hostage situation and ensuring the safety of the three victims without any injuries.
