BAGUIO CITY — The Police Regional Office in Cordillera on Tuesday announced that the conduct of the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections last Monday in the region was generally peaceful.
PROCor regional director PB General David Peredo said that while the polls were peaceful, there were eight incidents recorded during the day of the election itself.
He disclosed that there were five verified election-related incidents, two incidents still under verification and another incident that is not considered election-related, adding that most of the incidents took place in Abra.
Peredo also said that a total of 71 police personnel served as Special Board of Election Inspectors in the region and of the total, 11 were deployed in Kalinga Province while 60 were stationed in Abra after some teachers withdrew from being poll facilitators.
The PROCor director also revealed that more than 300 candidates in Abra withdrew before the elections of total number 8,400 poll aspirants.
He said that one of the major reasons of the withdrawal is because of community and family agreements where some of them gave way to their opponents which are said to be their relatives.
