The Department of Agriculture said on Monday it continues to regularly monitor the prices of basic commodities, especially agricultural products.
The DA said the prices of onions and garlic have remained stable in the Commonwealth, Guadalupe, Las Piñas, Marikina, Mega Q-Mart, Muñoz, Pasay, Pasig, Quinta, San Andres, Muntinlupa and Pritil markets.
"The prices per kilo range from P140 to P142 for local red onions, P125 to P130 for local white onions, P120 to P125 for imported white onions, P125 to P140 for imported garlic, and P500 for local garlic," DA Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa reported.
De Mesa, however, noted price increases for other crops, particularly potatoes, resulting from the typhoons that hit the country in July and August.
De Mesa said the DA is looking into the situation and expects it to normalize with the incoming supply.
"The peak of the harvest within the last quarter of this year up to the first quarter of 2024 will have a positive impact on the supply and price of potatoes," he said.
