BAGUIO CITY — An incumbent barangay captain and daughter were shot by still unidentified gunman on Saturday afternoon at Barangay Butol in Santiago town, Ilocos Sur.
The victims — identified as Ruben Elefante and Rubiemae Elefante, both residents of Barangay Gabao in Santiago town — were rushed to the hospital after suffering from gunshot wounds and are now in stable condition.
The elder Elefante is the incumbent village chief of Barangay Gabao and is now running for kagawad in the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Initial reports disclosed that the shooting was reported to the police at 2:30 p.m. and according to the Santiago Police, the father and daughter were on board a tricycle when an unidentified male flagged down the vehicle.
After the tricycle stopped, the suspect suddenly shot the barangay chairman and his daughter and fled the scene heading South.
Elefante sustained a lone gunshot wound on his right malar and an exit wound at his left angle of the mandible while his daughter sustained a lone gunshot wound on her right wrist.
They were rushed to the Candon General Hospital at Candon City, Ilocos Sur.
The police are now conducting investigation on the possible identification of the suspect and a pursuit operation. The cops are also reviewing footage captured by CCTV cameras installed in the area.
