The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Saturday ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the disappearance of Miss Grand Philippines 2023 Catherine Camilon following the alleged involvement of a police officer in the case.
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said he instructed the Philippine National Police to conduct a thorough investigation.
Abalos said he was "terribly disappointed" and "greatly disturbed by reports that a police officer might be involved in the disappearance of a beauty pageant candidate."
"In the event that all the evidence points to the subject police officer's involvement, we assure the public of a fair, proper and impartial investigation," he said.
Protection offered
"Certainly, I am at the forefront of those fighting for the protection of women, children, and even the elderly, and I am committed to defending them at all times and at all costs," he said.
Abalos said the police officer had been relieved to remove any doubts about a whitewash or coverup.
"In the event that all the evidence points to the subject police officer's possible involvement, we assure the public of a fair, proper, and impartial investigation," he vowed.
"I have also instructed our policemen to relentlessly pursue all actionable leads and do everything they can within the bounds of the law to rescue the missing victim and return her safely to her family," he said.
