The local government of Pasig City inaugurated the 12,000-door columbarium at the Pasig City Cemetery over the weekend.
"The initial structure started during the previous administration. However, things were missing or that needed adjustments," Mayor Vico Sotto said.
Sotto said he was surprised that the 12,000 niche doors columbarium was not included in the original plan.
He said that the Pasig Cemetery Office has long been holding office in a container van, but now it has a fully air-conditioned office.
The mayor likewise said that they fixed the non-functional ramps of the chapel and have an elevator now.
"The project is so nice but our engineering department has a reminder to us on why we are stricter on proper planning today," Sotto said.
"The timing of our inauguration is right, before All Saints' Day," the mayor added.
Meanwhile, the city government will implement a rerouting scheme to avoid traffic build-up in areas near cemeteries.
Starting 2 p.m. of 31 October until 1 November, there will be a one-way traffic scheme along C. Raymundo Avenue from E. Angeles Street to Mercedes Avenue (North Bound) to give way to the observance of this year's All Saints' Day.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
