The Commission on Elections reported Saturday that a fire destroyed a classroom at an elementary school that was to be used as a polling precinct in Maguindanao.

The fire broke out at Ruminimbang Elementary School in Barangay Ruminimbang, Maguindanao, at 2 a.m.

Barangay Ruminimbang is classified as an election area with grave concern (red category).

Authorities believe the incident may be politically related, as the classroom that was burned was to be used as a polling precinct for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

The fire was extinguished around 4 a.m., with no reported casualties.
