BFP augments Undas personnel

The Bureau of Fire Protection has deployed around 1,000 personnel to augment emergency responses and medical assistance in 66 identified cemeteries in Metro Manila during the observance of this year's Undas.

BFP-NCR assistant regional director, Senior Supt. Rodrigo Reyes said these personnel will compose the bureau's first aid service team "equipped with the necessary background and training to respond to medical needs" amid the influx of people.

"The are registered nurses that have undergone training while emergency medical technicians, paramedics — those inside the ambulances, are also highly-trained," Reyes said in the vernacular during a media forum on Saturday in Quezon City.

Reyes meanwhile said the BFP continues to conduct regular year-round safety awareness programs, including information dissemination within communities and campaigning through social media platforms.

"We have Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan, we have Firetruck on the Road, roaming around communities, schools, and other public places like markets," he added.

Reyes said Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan seeks for public's participation in minimizing the number of fire incidents in the country.

Those who will lit candles during Undas — to pay respect to their departed loved ones

— are advised to place candles in a secured area outside, instead of leaving them indoors, such as at the altar.
