Land Transportation Office chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II on Friday has ordered all regional directors to intensify the information drive on the capacity of the agency to handle online transactions for registration of motor vehicles.
Mendoza issued the directive after LTO data revealed that only one percent of vehicles in the Philippines are utilizing digital transaction for registration and renewal of registration of motor vehicles.
"The LTO right now has the capacity for online registration you don't have to go in LTO in order to register your motor vehicle in fact that will be our fast of moving forward," Mendoza said.
He added that the improvement on the LTO digital transaction is in compliance with the marching order of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to all government agencies to speed up the digitalization in government services.
This was also reiterated by Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista when Mendoza was appointed as LTO Chief in July this year.
On the part of the LTO Central Office, Mendoza said he has been meeting with car and motorcycle dealers to inform them of the capacity of the LTO to handle online transactions for the registration of new motor vehicles.
"We have spoken with three operators, buses, jeeps, taxis, vans and other private operators so that we can transition them from face to face model as far as the registration to online system," Mendoza said.
Currently, Mendoza said they are putting everything together to fast-track the digital shift for application of student permits and driver's license, as well as the renewal of the driver's license.
