DAVAO CITY — The local government here was awarded a P3-million grant for its creative spaces project — dubbed as the "Creative Spaces in Public Places: Utilizing Recreational Parks and Facilities as Grassroots-centered Hubs for the Arts, Technology and Innovation."
The project was chosen for the Lunsod Lunsad program of the Department of Trade and Industry.
Jason Maverick Arceo, officer-in-charge of the Museo Dabawenyo, received the award on behalf of the City Government at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City recently.
He added that the proposal for the project was jointly done by the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center and the Office of Councilor Pilar Braga.
Based on the proposal, the Creative Spaces in Public Places project is an initiative consisting of simultaneous activities conducted across key parks and recreation areas to be designated as creative spaces by the Davao City government.
The covered creative domains are Audiovisual Media, Digital Interactive Media, Creative Services, Design, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and Traditional Cultural Expression.
The identified spaces for the first district are People's Park, Cinematheque Centre Davao, Ramon Magsaysay Park, Poblacion Market Central, Museo Dabawenyo, Dona Vicenta Park, Davao City Public Library and Information Center.
For the second district, the identified spaces are Abreeza Ayala Mall Activity Center, Azuela Cove Mini Park, SM Lanang Premiere Fountain Court and Calinan Gymnasium, and for the third district spaces identified are Toril Recreational Park and Mintal.
Meanwhile, Braga said they are happy with the grant the city received for the project.
"The main concept of this is that we can design our parks and open spaces to allow creative people in visual, performing, arts and crafts to showcase their work in our parks and open spaces," she added.
