Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Prospero de Vera III on Tuesday lauded the partnership between the World Citi Colleges and the University of Manitoba in Canada in establishing a clinical competence assessment center in the country.

According to De Vera, the University of Manitoba is known for its 140-year history as a research-intensive institution.

"This impressive milestone underscores both institutions' relentless commitment to enhancing medical education and healthcare practice in the Philippines," De Vera said during the launch of the center.

"The state-of-the-art facility you've established for evaluating the clinical competence of healthcare professionals represents a significant leap in our collective efforts to strengthen the nation's health sector," De Vera added.

The facility, according to De Vera, aligns perfectly with CHEd's initiatives to expand medical and nursing education programs to address the shortage of healthcare workers in the country.

"It serves as a testament to our shared vision of empowering the healthcare professionals in our country with essential skills and knowledge to provide exceptional care to our fellow Filipinos," he said.

Recently, CHED signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Health, the Private Sector Advisory Council, and the Private Hospital Association of the Philippines for the Clinical Care Associate Upskilling Program, which aims to address the shortage of healthcare workers in the country.

"The program provides a valuable opportunity for underboard nursing graduates to participate in tutorials or review classes, significantly enhancing their prospects of successfully passing the board exam," De Vera said.
