The Armed Forces of the Philippines is continuously monitoring the conflict situation in Gaza, Israel, military spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar said Tuesday.
Aguilar expressed the AFP's readiness should the government decide to utilize the country's military air assets to evacuate the Filipinos trapped in the conflict.
"We continuously monitor what's happening in Israel and the Gaza Strip. So the plan that we set up is still there, so the mode of the evacuation of course… will depend on the decision of higher authorities which one to undertake whether it is already military aircraft or commercial aircraft," Aguilar told reporters in a chance interview in Camp Aguinaldo.
Aguilar said the government is considering several options as to how it will repatriate Filipinos that have been cornered in the conflict between the Israeli government and the militant group, Hamas.
"There are so many options I think, even the use of boat would be considered but the most efficient right now is the use of aircraft," he said.
Aguilar said there's no external threat from the Hamas group in the Philippines so far.
"We believe that we have a good relationship with all sectors of our society and that the government is on top of the situation," he added.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has already ordered the mandatory repatriation and evacuation of Filipinos in Gaza as it declared Alert Level 4 over the Gaza Strip, following the declaration of the Israel Defense Force that it is planning a coordinated offensive into the Palestinian territory by land, air, and sea.
The Philippine Air Force earlier said they had already readied the C130 and C295 aircraft—complemented aircrew, medical, and security personnel.
PAF said the combined "capacity of both aircraft will be able to transport more than a hundred Filipinos out of Israel's conflict area in one shuttle."
