Citing the extraordinary situation in Israel, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said the repatriation of the remains of the three Filipinos killed by Hamas may take more than a week.
"Under normal circumstances, [repatriation] would only take about a week. However, due to the war and the situation being extraordinary, it will probably take some time," OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio said. "It would take more than a week."
The three Filipinos killed since Hamas began its surprise attack in Israel last week were Loreta Alacre, Angeline Aguirre and Paul Vincent Castelvi.
Alacre and Castelvi were both caregivers, while Aguirre was a nurse. The three Filipinos were only among the hundreds of foreigners confirmed killed in Israel.
According to the latest death toll from Agence France-Presse, of 1,300 dead in Israel, 140 were foreigners, many of whom also held Israeli nationality.
Meanwhile, Gaza Strip health authorities have reported that more than 2,200 people have been killed in retaliatory Israeli strikes.
The US State Department also upped the American death toll in the Israel-Hamas conflict to 29, while 15 others and one permanent resident are missing.
Thailand also recorded a staggering death toll of 28. At least 17 Thais are confirmed taken hostage by Hamas.
