Globe recently joined forces with Metro Manila Pride to hold the company's Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression 101/Sensitivity Training for employees.
This collaboration also marked the formal cascade of Globe's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy Commitment, which serves as the anchor to the company's many programs that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
By valuing diversity, upholding equity and fostering inclusion, Globe aims to contribute to making a more inclusive society.
Globe's commitment encompasses various aspects, such as welcoming and embracing diversity; supporting gender equality and women empowerment in hiring, employment policies and practices; respecting and promoting work-life integration among employees; and treating customers with respect and dignity and making products and services accessible and affordable
Nico Bambao, VP for People Experience at Globe, shared her thoughts on the initiative.
"Although we've been mounting several programs and initiatives that cater to our diverse set of employees, the launching of our DEI Policy Commitment concretizes our living promise to our employees and stakeholders, and showcases how we are dedicated to breaking barriers, encouraging people to do more and be more and leaving no one behind. We're very grateful to have partners like Metro Manila Pride who allow us to put this policy into action," she said.
The training covered essential topics, including SOGIE 101 and the SOGIE Equality Bill, which recognizes the fundamental rights of every person regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, and how these concepts can be applied in the Philippine setting.
Globe's employees expressed keen interest in learning from the training. The positive feedback encouraged Globe's Human Resources Group to work toward creating more programs that align with the company's inclusivity goals.
DJ Permalino, labor telations manager at Globe, reflected on the success of the training, saying: "We are actively working toward creating more programs that align with our goal of ensuring a safe and inclusive working environment for our employees. This training is just one of the steps we're taking in our journey toward a more inclusive Globe."
Metro Manila Pride is a volunteer-managed, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating, equipping and empowering the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community to work for a future that recognizes and respects the right of persons to a dignified life without discrimination and prejudice.
Globe has always welcomed and embraced any race, color, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, political affiliation, union membership, marital status and socio-economic status. Its inclusive approach ensures that all employees are treated with respect and dignity.
Prior to this event, the company had also celebrated Women's Month with similar activities, including a virtual race led by the company's Globe Power and Speed Runners, a fireside chat with some of Globe's senior female leaders that aimed to unleash their "Gpower" as women.
