The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said it expects damage and aftershocks following the magnitude-5 earthquake that struck Calaca, Batangas, on Friday morning, 13 October.
In its earthquake bulletin Friday, Phivolcs said the tremor hit at 8:24 a.m. with the epicenter tracked at 3.79° north, 120.79° east, about 15 kilometers southwest of Calaca in Batangas province.
Phivolcs recorded intensity 5 in Batangas City and Lemery town; intensity 4 in Muntinlupa City and Sta. Teresita town in Batangas; intensity 3 in Tagaytay City, Cavite, Talisay, San Jose, Lipa City, Padre Garcia and Laurel municipality;
Intensity 2 in General Trias, Pateros, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Pasay, Obando, Meycauayan, Santa Cruz and San Pablo, Laguna, while intensity 1 was felt in Pasig and Caloocan cities.
Other instrumental intensities were recorded in Lemery, Batangas at intensity 5; and intensity 4 in Cuenca, Bauan, Sta. Teresita, San Luis in Batangas, Tagaytay City, and Muntinlupa; intensity 3 in Laurel, Batangas City, and Dolores, Quezon; intensity 2 in Talisay and Rosario in Batangas, Magallanes in Cavite, Boac in Marinduque, Las Piñas City, Pasay City, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, Mauban, Polillo and Gumaca in Quezon province, Taytay and Antipolo in Rizal province.
Phivolcs noted an instrumental intensity 1 in Malvar in Batangas, Malolos City and Guiguinto in Bulacan, Ternate in Cavite, San Pablo in Laguna as well as in cities of San Juan and Parañaque, Pateros in Rizal, Abra de Ilog and Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro, Lucena City, Lucban in Quezon province, Tanay as well as Dinalupihan in Bataan.
The Office of Civil Defense, however, reported no damage and casualties at press time.
