Mindoro unites amid power woes
Mindoro’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions has been thwarted by a variety of obstacles, including resource constraints, unresolved disputes, and legal impediments.

Former energy secretary Alfonso Cusi, now President of the Mindoro Business Council, joined forces with Governor Humerlito "Bonz" Dolor and the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro on 29 September 2023 in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro to signify unity in addressing Mindoro Island's energy challenges.
Ex-Congressman Rodolfo Valencia and Provincial Administrator Dr. Hubbert Christopher Dolor also joined the panel to tackle the province's problems.
The summit, conducted at the Tamaraw Hall of the Provincial Capitol, brought together a diverse group of local and national government power-related agencies, electric cooperatives, and interested parties.
Lawyer Cesar "Mong" G. dela Fuente and Dr. Din Mabanta moderated the summit.
Mindoro's pursuit of sustainable energy solutions has been thwarted by various obstacles, including resource constraints, unresolved disputes, and legal impediments, among others.
The Power Summit was convened to address these issues head-on and devise realistic and lasting solutions to ensure adequate, affordable, and reliable power supply for all Mindoreños.
"The situation we are in right now is a product of many factors, and all of us, in varying levels, have somehow contributed to its perpetuation. We can't be blaming the past. While we recognize that there were failures and mistakes, I urge you to set aside differences biases, and suspend judgment so we can arrive at a solution or solutions," Cusi said in his address.
"Let us put our acts together. It is easier said than done, but this is the only way to go if we want Mindoro to succeed and if we truly want to take care of Mindoreños and our future generation. Please commit now and put our words into action. Together, let us resolve Mindoro's power issue," he added.
Aim is mutual benefit
The Mindoro Power Summit demonstrated unity in diversity, choosing mutual benefit and greater good over individual interests.
The ongoing summit continues exploring strategic power alternatives for Mindoro Island, proposing innovative solutions that promote energy security and sustainability and rebranding the island as the country's food.
