SsangYong, a name long associated with SUVs and rugged off-road vehicles, recently underwent a critical transformation. The South Korean automaker has rebranded itself as KG Mobility, signaling a new era for the company.

The rebranding comes after KG Group, a South Korean conglomerate with diverse business interests, acquired a majority stake in SsangYong.

The name change was finalized at a shareholder meeting earlier this year, and the company's new direction is encapsulated in its slogan, "Go Different. KG Mobility."

While the rebranding is noteworthy, what's capturing attention in the automotive circles is the highly probable arrival of the Torres SUV to the Philippine market, given that there have been a number of sightings over the past months of a white-colored example plying the roads.

The Torres, initially developed under the project name J100, is not just another SUV; it's a vehicle that aims to carve out its own niche. Positioned between the Korando and the Rexton in KG Mobility's lineup, the Torres is designed to offer a blend of off-road capability and urban sophistication.

It shares its platform with the Korando but aims to offer something more rugged, more attuned to the adventurous spirit. It's name is taken from the Chilean national park, Torres del Fine, echoing the call of adventure of the South American landscape.

Under the hood, the Torres is powered by a 1.5-liter e-XGi150T T-GDI inline-four petrol engine. The power output stands at 168 hp and around 280 Nm of torque, which should provide ample grunt for both city driving and off-road escapades.

The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, offering a balance between performance and fuel efficiency.

When it comes to dimensions, the Torres is not a small vehicle by any means. It has a wheelbase of 2.68 meters and a length of 4.7 meters, providing a spacious interior that can comfortably accommodate five passengers. The SUV is 1.89 meters wide by 1.72 meters tall, giving the SUV its imposing road presence.

The design philosophy behind the Torres is encapsulated in the term "Powered by Toughness." The vehicle features a vertical-style radiator grille that gives it a robust appearance.
