Tycoon Lucio Tan has assumed the position of Chairman Emeritus at the Philippine National Bank, where he served as director of the board for over 20 years.
According to PNB, the organizational updates will usher in new era for the company as it aims to sustain profitability "under the guidance of a highly experienced and professional leadership team."
During his tenure, Tan supervised the successful completion of the PNB-Allied Bank merger in 2013 — a move that elevated PNB to become one of the country's premier privately-owned commercial banks.
He also led PNB's global footprint expansion to cater to the financial needs of millions of Filipinos overseas.
Stronger board
Along with this development, PNB also announced that Director Carmen Tan will join the distinguished Advisory Board of the Bank.
The company also introduced lawyer Eusebio Tan and Chester Luy as new members of the board of directors.
"I am confident that having Directors Luy and Tan on our board further strengthens our roster of leaders."
The PNB board and the management team shall work together to continue PNB's legacy of being a reliable financial partner of Filipinos here and abroad," PNB President Florido Casuela said over the weekend.
Tan, with his extensive experience as Senior Legal Counsel and former Managing Partner at ACCRALAW, brings expertise in banking, mergers and acquisitions, investments, and business law, among others.
Luy, on the other hand, has a vast international leadership background. He held senior management roles at JPMorgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital, HSBC, Julius Baer and Bank of Singapore, among others.
