Kaya FC-Iloilo is off to a rough start in the AFC Champions League after a 1-3 loss to Shandong Taishan at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium Tuesday evening.
It was a historic win for Shandong as it finally notched a win in the ACL after four years.
After a scoreless draw in the first half, Moises converted a penalty in the 63rd minute before Matheus Pato converted a tap-in in the 71st minute to make it 2-0.
Jarvey Gayoso pulled one goal back for the Lions, scoring his first AFC Champions League goal in the 79th minute.
Cryzan Barcelos nailed the insurance goal for Shandong in the 94th minute for the win.
"We wanted to stay in the game as long as possible. We knew from analyzing from Shandong, they're a fit team," Kaya head coach Colum Curtis said
"Unfortunately, those are the kind of goals you do not want to concede in the Champions League. It makes it a more difficult pill to swallow seeing those goals in that manner," he continued.
Shandong is at second in Group G with Incheon United at the top of the table due to goal difference.
Kaya will travel to South Korea to play Incheon on 3 October at the Sungui Arena Park.
