Cebu FC and Loyola FC headline the start of the 2024 Philippines Football League season when they clash today at the Dynamic Herb Borromeo Sports Complex in Cebu.
Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m. as the Gentle Giants face off with The Greywolves, who are making a return to the league after seven years.
Cebu looks to start its campaign on a high note after finishing at second place last season with a 15-6-1 win-draw-loss record for 51 points.
Turkish head coach Memiş Özata will be at the helm for Cebu for this season after taking over from former American head coach Joshua Schirmer.
Meanwhile, Loyola jacked up its roster with foreign players like former Tiffy Army FC forward Daisuke Kobayashi of Japan, former Kaya FC-Iloilo forward Emmanuel Osei of Ghana and Boris Kante of Cameroon.
In Manila, a triple header is on tap at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex as Manila Digger FC opens the 2024 PFL season against Philippine Army FC at 3 p.m.
At 5 p.m., Philippine Air Force FC meets Mendiola FC 1991 with Tuloy FC battles Maharlika Taguig FC at 8 p.m.
PFL commissioner Coco Torre said he wants to see these players do their best to get a potential callup for the men's national football team.
"We want to have these players in the national team based on their sporting merits and not for anything else," Torre said.
