More than 11,000 non-officer personnel were promoted to the next higher rank of the Philippine Coast Guard following their promotion and donning on Monday.
PCG commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M. Abu, presided over the donning and oath-taking ceremonies of more than 11,000 PCG non-officers, composed of junior and senior personnel, at the National Headquarters.
According to Admiral Abu, the promotion is a testament not only to their competence and skill in their respective positions and roles in the PCG but importantly a reflection of their commitment to the organization and the reward of their immeasurable sacrifices in pursuit of the organization's duty to save lives and protect the marine environment, the primary mandate of the PCG.
"This accomplishment is one of many you will attain as we continue to serve the Filipino people and seek to provide a better life for future generations," the PCG Commandant said.
Abu reminded the newly promoted personnel to always know that their every finished task, every completed assignment, and mission accomplished, "no matter how small or menial these may seem to you, is significant to the organization as a whole, for what is the PCG's success but a collection of small contributions from our tireless men and women serving beyond the call of duty."
"Always remember that promotions are not only recognitions of prior outstanding work. They are also an acknowledgment of your potential to do even better, to outdo yourself, and to surpass previous successes," Abu said.
To date, there are more than 30,000 strong PCG forces in the country responsible for performing maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, maritime safety, maritime environmental protection and maritime security.
