The Commission on Higher Education is pushing for international collaboration and linkages between state universities and colleges and foreign schools in order to further improve the country's higher education system, its chairperson Prospero de Vera III said over the weekend.
"I recently returned from my trip to China where I witnessed the signing of the memorandum of understanding between 10 Philippine higher education institutions including six public universities and colleges (including University of the Philippines), and Chinese HEIs to strengthen educational cooperation through people exchanges and mobilization of resources for education," De Vera said in his keynote speech during the first SUC summit organized by the University of the Philippines at its Diliman campus in Quezon City Friday.
"Through these partnerships between our HEIs, which include state universities and colleges, and foreign schools abroad, we facilitate student and faculty mobility opportunities, ensuring that no SUCs are left behind in internationalization efforts," he added.
De Vera said that more state-run universities under his administration are subjecting themselves to evaluation and applying for international ranking, in line with the agency's internationalization efforts.
"The continuing increase in the number of internationally ranked HEIs proves that the Philippines is on the right track to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and improve its global reputation," De Vera said.
According to him, the government's investment in internationalization has produced outstanding results in the field of higher education.
"We have done a lot, and we will continue to do more," he added.
