The Philippines has offered assistance to Morocco following the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country last Friday night, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Tuesday.
Marcos expressed his condolences to the people of Morocco on his official social media account over the loss of over 2,800 lives and injuries to thousands more.
"The Filipino people are deeply saddened to learn of this tragedy," Marcos said on his X (formerly Twitter) account. "We stand in grief and solidarity with you, and our prayers go to the families affected by this disaster."
He said the Philippines is prepared to send relief supplies to help with the recovery efforts.
"We have faith in the strength and resilience of the Moroccan people to unite and rebuild in the face of such adversity," the President added.
Morocco's interior ministry said the earthquake has claimed 2,862 lives so far, resulting in at least 2,562 injuries.
Philippine Ambassador to Morocco Leslie Baja said in a television interview that no Filipino has been reported killed or injured in the earthquake.
Baja said there are approximately 4,600 Filipinos residing in Morocco.
He said the embassy will work closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs to assist Filipinos affected by the earthquake.
