Lotus, the famed British automaker, recently unveiled the Emeya in New York City, marking the debut of their inaugural four-door hyper-GT.
This luxury electric vehicle is a fusion of Lotus' 75-year rich automotive legacy with the most recent technological advances in the automotive world.
Feng Qingfeng, CEO of Lotus Group, emphasized the distinctiveness of this new launch, stating: "Bringing together our rich heritage with intelligent performance and the latest cutting-edge technologies, we're pushing the boundaries for how a luxury electric vehicle should look and handle — making it truly for the drivers."
It seamlessly integrates seven and a half decades of the company's engineering prowess with the latest in EV innovation, offering an electric vehicle that not only drives exceptionally but is also thrilling to handle.
The Emeya comes equipped with a pioneering active front grille, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler.
These features, combined with what Lotus has coined as the 'hyperstance' — a low center of gravity — significantly enhance driving stability. Such integration sets a fresh benchmark in the GT segment, particularly when it comes to superior ride and handling.
On the technological front, the Emeya has been installed with an electronically controlled air suspension system.
The system's cutting-edge onboard sensors possess the ability to read the road a staggering 1,000 times per second. These readings are instantly translated into adjustments to the vehicle's suspension, ensuring an incredibly smooth ride for its occupants.
Performance enthusiasts have something to celebrate, too. The apex model of the Emeya comes packed with Lotus' potent dual motor setup putting out a claimed 905 horsepower.
With the capability to hit speeds north of 250 klometers per hour, and boasting an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in a blistering 2.8 seconds, it stands out as one of the globe's swiftest electric GTs.
Furthermore, Lotus hasn't just prioritized speed. Recognizing the importance of an efficient charging system for an electric vehicle, the Emeya promises market-leading charging prowess.
A mere five-minute plug-in to a 350kW DC fast charger gifts it with 150 km of range. If one can spare 18 minutes, the Emeya's battery boosts up to an impressive 80 percent of its total capacity.
The Emeya champions the use of advanced and conscientiously sourced sustainable materials. The vehicle features luxury threads created from fibers repurposed from the fashion industry and incorporates materials like PVD aluminum, Alcantara, Nappa leather, and Ultrafabrics PU.
Ben Payne, vice president of Design at Lotus Group, encapsulated the vision behind the Emeya, remarking: "This is a Lotus like you have never seen before. We've built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy — connecting them to the road."
The Emeya's name captures Lotus' dedication and aspiration for this vehicle. It symbolically melds emotion with logic, power with precision, and successfully bridges Lotus' sports car DNA with four-door opulence.
With the Emeya, Lotus continues its journey towards transforming into a global performance brand. Slated to begin production in 2024, this flagship model joins Lotus' elite range of luxury electric vehicles. The company's overarching vision sees them at the forefront of the EV luxury segment by 2028.
