PHNOM PENH — Mainstay Afril Bernardino delivered the game-winning basket with four seconds left to send the Gilas Pilipinas women's team to the gold medal match of the Southeast Asian Games 3×3 basketball competition Sunday at the Morodok Techo National Stadium Elephant Hall 2 here.
Playing in her third straight SEA Games 3×3 tilt, Bernardino made sure to complete the squad's redemption after bowing out of the podium last year.
This time, she presided on the team's offense just when needed the most as she pierced the defense of the US-based Cambodians with a game-winning basket, 21-20, to set her team up for the gold medal game against Vietnam.
A jubilant Philippine women's team and its supporters who came out to witness this thrilling victory poured out their emotions.
