Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla yesterday urged suspended Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag to answer the complaints filed against him over the murder of broadcaster Percival "Percy Lapid" Mabasa in October.
Remulla's statement was in apparent response to Bantag asking his accusers to prove the charges against him, claiming the same to be fabricated.
Two counts of murder had been filed by the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Philippines against Bantag over the death of Mabasa and Cristito Villamor Palana.
Palana was an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison who allegedly facilitated the contract killing of Mabasa. He was killed purportedly to cut the link between him and Bantag on the order to silence Mabasa for good for exposing the ex-BuCor chief's "unexplained" wealth.
The camp of Bantag has yet to file a counter-affidavit on the complaints against him, a month since the conduct of preliminary investigation hearings on the killings.
