Filipinos may expect better weather conditions on New Year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Wednesday.
PAGASA weather expert Veronica Torres made this announcement on Daily Tribune's online daily show Gising Na! despite having a low-pressure area affecting parts of the Visayas and Mindanao these past few days.
"In the next few days, there is a good chance of the weather improving in the Visayas and Mindanao," Torres said in Filipino, adding that the weather would also be good in Metro Manila on 31 December and 1 January.
More rain elsewhere
PAGASA, however, urged the people to prepare for further floods and landslides as the low-pressure region inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is anticipated to deliver more rain to some parts of the nation.
Torres said PAGASA is also not disregarding the likelihood that the LPA will intensify into a typhoon in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Torres also mentioned that the LPA still affects Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Region.
She added that Amihan, or the northeast monsoon, is still having an impact on Luzon. Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region may see moderate to heavy rain.
"We are urging the fishermen and those who have marine vehicles not to go mid-sea if possible due to the current weather conditions," she said.
