Shaina Magdayao has overcome many challenges in her 25 years in showbiz. But nothing compares to her 2016 bout with hypothyroidism — in which the body can't function normally due to a deficiency in producing thyroid hormones.
"I was gaining weight and was prone to injuries," Magdayao recalled in a virtual interview.
Her condition forced her to give up dancing which she used to do regularly on ABS-CBN's Sunday show ASAP.
After a hiatus, Magdayao is back — her physical and mental health restored.
"I feel like a part of me is alive again," she said, adding she realized how dancing had played a big part in her life. In fact, dancing was her main skill when she first joined ASAP.
The dancer who has, in time, made a mark as a TV/movie actor, said she's grateful to ASAP management and staff for their patience and accommodation. All she has, she said, is courage.
Magdayao runs her own local lifestyle brand Organized Chicas whose flagship product, the classic canvas totes, built a clientele amid the pandemic. Its new line of items, called Colore Collection, has recently been released. A dainty set of bag styles is also available on its Frill Collection.
Magdayao said she also personally named each item of her products.
