While most Filipinos still have hope for the coming year, private pollster Pulse Asia said on Monday that half of adult Filipinos would celebrate Christmas the same way they did in 2021.
"Virtually all Filipino adults (92 percent) will face the year ahead with hope, a sentiment echoed by 89 percent to 99 percent across geographic areas and by 86 percent to 94 percent in the various socio-economic classes," Pulse Asia said following its "Ulat ng Bayan" survey.
The high 'hopeful' sentiment is shared across all locales surveyed by Pulse Asia from 27 November to 1 December — 99 percent for Visayas, followed by the National Capital Region at 94 percent, 89 percent over Balance Luzon (other regions in Luzon except Metro Manila), and 89 percent over Mindanao.
Pulse Asia added that eight percent of the adults remained "ambivalent" on the matter, while less than one percent say they will face the coming new year without hope.
Same Christmas celebration for 52 percent of adults
In the same "Ulat ng Bayan" survey, Pulse Asia said 52 percent of Filipino adults expected Christmas would be the "same as last year" for their family.
Out of the 1,200 adult respondents aged 18 and above Pulse Asia interviewed in person, 42 percent said their Christmas would be as good as last year while 43 percent of the country's adult population will have a more prosperous holiday celebration this year.
"The same pattern of public opinion may be observed in the rest of Luzon (35 percent versus 41 percent), Mindanao (46 percent versus 48 percent), Class ABC (36 percent versus 48 percent), Class D (44 percent versus 41 percent), and Class E (39 percent versus 43 percent)," Pulse Asia said.

The rest of the Filipino adults (10 percent) told Pulse Asia that their Christmas celebrations with their families would be the same or worse than last year. Six percent said their Christmas celebrations would be worse than last year.
Pulse Asia said their survey has a ± 2.8 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level, while subnational estimates have a ± 5.7 percent margin of error at 95 percent confidence level per locale.
