More than 1,300 golfers trooped to Baguio City for the 72nd staging of the Fil-Am Invitational in late November. They came with different objectives, mostly to have fun and enjoy the cool weather of the summer capital.

A handful, however, had other things in mind.

Manila Southwoods, for instance, sent four teams with the intention of sweeping all the championship divisions in both the regular and senior tournaments.

The Carmona-based squad succeeded in only three classes with Alpha Phi Omega Golfers-Team Alpha bagging the senior Am-Championship bracket, winning by five over Srixon IMG.

Other than that, Southwoods was unchallenged in the regular tournament, sweeping both Fil and Am-Championship divisions with plenty to spare. It also defended its senior Fil-Championship class.

It would take some time before a team can provide Southwoods a run for its money, but until such time, participants can take solace in the camaraderie and friendship forged during the two-week extravaganza.
