PALAYAN CITY, NUEVA ECIJA — A total of 32 farmers here recently graduated from the Climate Resilient Farm Business School-Farmers Field School in Barangay Aulo conducted by the Department of Agriculture Central Luzon under its Rice Program.
The project aims to hone the skills of the rice farmers and teaching them how to be good decision-makers in regards to farming.
The curriculum included the use of less pesticides, skills development for rice farming due to changing weather and increase the output of production and earnings of farmers.
Present during the graduation ceremony were Regional FFS Techno Demo Coordinator Amelita Londonio, along with Agricultural Technologist Julie Ann Gamit of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, City Agriculturist Esmenia Lulu, Committee on Agriculture Julius Bautista and Training Facilitator Agriculturist II Juliuzar Uera from the City Agriculture Office.
In Londonio's message, he cited that the FFS conducted the Climate Resilient Farm Business School to ensure that the farmers of Palayan City can cope up with the changing weather with little to no loss of income from farming.
She said that the reason why the agency conducted training on climate resilient is to provide farming methods for any weather. The training also includes the Farm Business School that trains farmers regarding bookkeeping in the proper way to list expenses, and to determine how much the earnings or losses are.
The 32 farmers who participated in the schooling were given certificates of completion, wherein 19 of the farmers were men, while the remaining 13 are women. During the last part of the program, a raffle was held by the DA with gardens tools as prizes.
