Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte will visit Pinaglabanan Elementary School today, 13 December, to test the school's free fiber optic Internet connection and inspect 55-inch smart TVs inside the classrooms.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora yesterday said that all 13 public schools in the city will be provided with fiber optic Internet connection and WiFi in all classrooms and common areas. All classrooms will be eventually equipped with TVs, he added.
"We want to empower our public school students by providing them with facilities and equipment comparable or maybe even better than what private schools have," Zamora said.
The mayor and the VP will observe the testing of the Internet connection and observe teachers in the use of the televisions as learning aids, doing away with blackboards and cartolina papers.
Students shall be using their free tablets and laptops with the free fiber optic Internet connection to follow the lecture.
All public school students in the city were given free tablets in 2020 in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, with grades 3 to 6 students of Pinaglabanan Elementary School getting free laptops.
Around 7,000 public school student households in the city have free fiber optic Internet connections provided by the San Juan City Government.
