Sparkle artist Kimson Tan won't let pressure get the best of him now that he's about to work on an international project.
Tan has been cast in the King of Hawkers, an upcoming film by Kelvin Sng, the acclaimed director of Taxi! Taxi!, The Fortune Handbook, and Don't Go Home Tonight.
King of Hawkers is a culinary film that aims to put the spotlight on Singaporean cuisine.
"I'm excited because this has been my dream — to try and go international. It's really happening right now," Tan said in a recent group virtual interview.
The pressure is inevitable, according to Tan, as he will be the first Filipino actor to work with AOR Global, a creative production house based in Singapore.
"Ako po 'yung una so I must give my best in everything that I do. I'm not only representing myself, but also GMA Network and the Philippines," he said.
The character he will be portraying requires fluency in Mandarin or Fookien.
"We sent a video of me introducing myself in Chinese. After that, in a few days, we had a meeting with Ms. Priscilla, the head of AOR Global, Kelvin Sng and chef John See," Tan recalled.
See is a veteran Singaporean chef and the food stylist of the 2018 romantic comedy-drama film Crazy Rich Asians.
Tan added that he is slowly learning how to cook at home in preparation for his role.
"I'm training with AOR Philippines with regards to the other aspects of my craft that I can improve on that somehow makakatulong sa 'kin (may be able to help me)," he said.
The young actor will fly to Singapore next year to start his training with AOR Global.
Tan starred in the Boys' Love series In Between, the drama anthology Mano Po Legacy: The Flower Sisters, and the upcoming live adaptation of the Japanese animé TV series Voltes V: Legacy.
