The father-daughter tandem of Angono, Rizal Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon and Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon was awarded by the Association of Anti-Drug Coalition of the Philippines as anti-drug local champions.
The local government of Angono was also a recipient of various awards for its anti-illegal drug programs.
In an awarding ceremony held at the Holiday Inn Suites in Makati City, Vice Mayor Calderon personally received the award and title from AADC Philippines chairperson Dr. Raquel Tolentino, Director Kelia Cummins of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and David Aguilar who serves as a consultant of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America.
Angono scored 98 percent in an assessment conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government the past few years.
Data from the Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance showed that the town of Angono ranked second among 14 localities due to a comprehensive and highly-functional performance program that addresses the threat of the illegal drugs in all of its 10 barangays.
The DILG has been giving recognition to cities and municipalities that have an effective program that serve as models of other local government units where threats of illegal drugs remain.
