Sonny Espiritu — a veteran photojournalist and contributor for the Daily Tribune — was recently recognized by Colegio de San Juan de Letran as he was included in the 400 Outstanding Men and Women of Letran in an event at the Manila Hotel Fiesta Pavillion.
The award — also dubbed as "Grandes Figuras" — is in line with the university's 400th anniversary as it recognizes Colegio's alumni who have made significant contributions to the society and country through their works and the totality of their career.
"This is one of the most important moments of my professional career for three decades as a photojournalist," Espiritu said.
"The biggest honor goes to my parents especially to my late father who mentored me in the field of photography," he added.
Espiritu also expressed gratitude to Letran.
"To my alma mater Colegio de San Juan de Letran I am eternally thankful and so honored to be selected as a deserving individual for getting this distinction. This award also belongs to my family and those people who were with me throughout the journey," Espiritu said.
"Lastly, thank you dear Lord — I am exceedingly blessed and fortunate to be part of Letran's quadricentennial celebration," he added.
